The people had taken a brave and courageous trip from Babylon to Jerusalem just 16 years prior, but due to conflict and legal action, they had been forced to stop the work of rebuilding the temple. God wanted the people to keep working, so He used Haggai to call them out and show them that He was still trying to get their attention and hadn’t given up on them.
